English is a juggernaut

About two years ago, I wrote a blog post entitled “The real reason we speak English” which attributed the widespread popularity of the language to the success of the British Army in invading countries.

This Guardian article expands on the idea and investigates why a language that developed on the north western fringes of Europe came to dominant the world.
