DreamWorks falls foul of Vietnam

DreamWorks latest animation offering, Abominable has been banned in Vietnam after getting the thumbs down over its controversial South China Sea map.

At the heart of the matter are tensions between Hanoi and Beijing over what is viewed as a blatant sea grab by Vietnam’s much larger neighbour. The sea contains a number of islands long claimed by
Vietnam as their territory.

However, over recent years China has been muscling in on the South China Sea by building military bases in the area and claiming sea rights up to the coast of Vietnam. Unsurprisingly, DreamWorks inclusion of a map that depicts the South China Sea as belonging to China has riled up Vietnam. The new movie was produced in partnership with China.
