Tourism in Vietnam hits new heights

Vietnam is aiming to attract 20.5 million overseas visitors in 2020 as tourism numbers this year notched up further record gains.

With 18 million international visitors and 85 million domestic holidaymakers in 2019, Vietnam is the hot ticket. The challenge now is to ensure the Vietnamese tourism industry is up to the task and doesn’t get overstretched, along with the infrastructure.

While increasing tourist numbers is to be applauded, the real trick is to then ensure repeat business. An easy win is better regulation of taxis at the country’s two main airports, Noi Bai in Hanoi and Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City. As matters stand, the first memory some tourists have of Vietnam is being ripped off by a taxi driver.

However, this can be avoided by using the official airport shuttle buses, downloading Grab and booking a taxi using this ride-hailing service, or arranging for a taxi pick up through your accommodation provider.
