Coronavirus hits tourism in Vietnam

The novel coronavirus could wipe up to US$7.7 billion from Vietnam’s tourism revenue in the next three months as international travelers stay away from SE Asia.

With Vietnam blocking flights and trains to and from China, Voice of Vietnam Radio reports that Chinese tourism earnings alone could mean the country’s tourism sector taking a hit of up US$2 billion. Chinese tourists accounted for around a third of the 18 million visitors to Vietnam last year.

The government has said it would also stop issuing visas to overseas visitors who had been in China in the past two weeks.
